Bread Pudding

Ingredients
  • 1 1/4 cups warm milk
  • 2 1/2 cups bread cubes*
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup raisins, optional
  • 2 large eggs, slightly beaten
Directions
  • 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease 9"x 5" loaf pan or 8"x8" square pan.
  • 2. Combine warm milk and bread cubes in prepared pan.
  • 3. In a mixing bowl, combine sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla. Add raisins. Stir in eggs until well blended.
  • 4. Pour egg mixture over bread mixture in pan and toss in lightly with fork.
  • 5. Bake until firm and puffed, about 30 minutes.
  • 6. Remove from oven and let sit for 10 minutes (It is normal for the bread pudding to collapse as it cools.)
  • 7. Serve warm with sauce.

Tips

*Homemade bread is best to use, especially leftover dinner rolls.

Sauce
Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup evaporated milk
Directions
  • 1. Combine all ingredients in saucepan.
  • 2. Heat until sugar and butter are melted. Stir often.
  • 3. Pour over bread pudding while still hot.
