Dinner Rolls

Ingredients
  • 2 teaspoons yeast
  • 3 tablespoons warm water
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup hot tap water
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
Directions
  • 1. In a small bowl, sprinkle yeast over warm water. Let stand until dissolved, about 5 minutes.
  • 2. In mixer bowl, combine egg, sugar, salt and butter. Stir in hot water. Add milk, yeast mixture and 1¼ cups flour. Beat until smooth, about 30 seconds.
  • 3. Gradually mix in remaining 1 cup flour and knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes.
  • 4. Form into a ball and place in greased bowl. Cover with clean kitchen cloth and let rise until double, about 1 hour.
  • 5. Grease 9" round baking pan.
  • 6. Divide dough into 12 pieces. Lightly flour hands as needed.
  • 7. Roll each piece in your hands, tucking ends under to make a smooth top (This takes some practice – the rolls will still taste good even if they don’t look perfect.)
  • 8. Place rolls in prepared pan. Cover and let rise until double, at least 1 hour. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • 9. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
